Banks encourage customers to switch to chip cards
According to the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), banks have stopped issuing magnetic stripe ATM cards and
Passengers with chip-based ID cards can use facial recognition technology at check-in desks and security checkpoints at local airports.
After six months, the initiative will be considered for expansion.
The ID cards with chips are expected to help citizens perform administrative procedures and daily transactions more conveniently and effectively.
Since January 2021, the cards has been issued widely by the Police Department for Administrative Management of Social Order under the Ministry of Public Security.
Each ID card chip may hold up to 20 personal data fields with a high level of information protection. According to the ministry, citizens’ privacy is secured.
As of October 11, some 73 million ID cards with chips have been issued out of 82 million eligible citizens.
