HCMC - Following Resolution No. 55 issued by the Government on June 2, the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) will offer a seven-month electricity price reduction for certain groups of customers hit by Covid-19, beginning from June.
The Government has asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to coordinate with EVN, the provincial and municipal Departments of Industry and Trade and other relevant agencies to deploy the resolution.
Particularly, lodging facilities will be entitled to the same electricity prices as manufacturers.
EVN will also offer free electricity to facilities that are being used to provide free Covid-19 quarantine and treatment.
Power prices will be lowered by 20% for medical centers that look after suspected Covid-19 cases, conduct Covid-19 tests and treat Covid-91 patients.
With this electricity price cut, EVN estimated the reduced electricity bills at VND1.2-1.3 trillion.
This is the third time EVN has cut the electricity prices since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out early last year.
Under the first reduction, EVN cut electricity prices by 10% for more than two million manufacturers and businesses as well as 22.8 million households consuming less than 300 kilowatt hours per month from April to June 2020. The cut was estimated at VND9.3 trillion.
As per the second reduction, EVN reduced electricity prices by nearly VND3 trillion in total for 25.4 million customers from October to December 2020.
The electricity price reduction has contributed to economic recovery and supporting low-income households, vulnerable people, lodging facilities and logistics companies.
