HCMC - The Japanese Government will provide Vietnam with a vaccine cold storage chain worth 200 million yen (US$1.8 million) to assist the country in the fight against Covid-19, Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide said during a phone call with Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on May 11.
In addition, Japan will donate a marine research ship to Vietnam and open the Japanese Consulate General in Danang City in 2022.
Suga said Japan highly appreciates and will continue its close cooperation with Vietnam, supporting Vietnam’s development in the future.
For his part, Phuc appreciated Suga’s selection of Vietnam as a destination for his first overseas trip since taking office last October and spoke highly of the fruitful and comprehensive relationship between the two countries.
Phuc affirmed that Vietnam always considers Japan as a strategic, long-term and important partner and highly valued Japan's effective and practical cooperation in Vietnam's socio-economic development.
Phuc suggested that Japan support Vietnam’s Covid-19 vaccination drive for Vietnamese people as well as the Vietnamese community in Japan.
Suga said Japan will support Vietnam to secure the necessary amount of Covid-19 vaccines and provide assistance for Vietnamese trainees in Japan, who serve as a bridge for the cooperation and relationship between the two countries.
The two sides agreed to foster exchanges at all levels, especially at high levels, improve the efficiency of cooperation mechanisms, strengthen collaboration in Covid-19 infection prevention and control, and accelerate cooperation in the implementation of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. The two sides will also join hands in preparing to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan in 2023.
