System error drags VN-Index down

HCMC - A system error occurred at around 2 p.m. on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HOSE), affecting trade and making the benchmark VN-Index shrink today, March 16.

VN-Index lost 4.66 points, or 0.39%, to close the day at 1,179.9 points, with losing stocks outnumbering winners by 297 to 162. The southern market saw 683.85 million shares worth more than VND15.3 trillion change hands, increasing slightly in both volume and value against the session earlier. Some 54.2 million shares worth more than VND1.79 trillion were traded in block deals.

In the VN30 basket, refrigeration electric engineering corporation REE, real estate developer NVL, lenders BID and VPB, dairy producer VNM and securities stock SSI fell 1-1.8%. Electricity firm POW, steelmaker HPG and lenders MBB and TCB lost less than 1%.

Seven stocks in the basket gained ground. Tech firm FPT and financial services company TCH were the biggest gainers, surging 5.9% to VND81,000 and 4% to VND23,600, respectively.

In the group of speculative stocks, construction firm ROS and property group FLC were the cash magnets, soaring 5.7% to VND4,100 and 4.3% to VND7,700, respectively. ROS led the southern market in terms of liquidity with 46.1 million shares changing hands and FLC came second with 33.3 million shares.

HAP, DAH, TGG, SBV and SHI shot up to the ceiling prices. Meanwhile, ITA, PVD, LPB, DLG, HAG, LCG, VIX, HNG, LDG and VND dipped into the red.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), trade surged in the afternoon, helping the HNX-Index recover from the gloomy morning session.

The HNX-Index added 0.7 point, or 0.9% against the previous session, to close the day at 275.89 points, with 54 winning stocks and 73 losing ones. There were 161.5 million shares worth VND2.67 trillion traded on the northern bourse, increasing 18% in volume and 27% in value.

In the HNX30 basket, lender SHB was the biggest gainer, surging 5.1% to VND18,700. SHB also took the lead in terms of liquidity with 63.2 million shares changing hands.

Some other contributors included asset management corporation TVC, real estate company NRC, pharmaceutical firm DP3 and industrial park developer LHG.

In related news, three companies including Vietnam Fumigation Joint Stock Company (VFG), Vietnam National Seed Group Joint Stock Company (NSC) and BIBICA Corporation (BBC) have passed resolutions to move their listing from HOSE to HNX to avoid system errors that have frequently occurred on HOSE.

All of them are members of The Pan Group Joint Stock Company. Once they finish moving their listing, HNX would have some 65 million more shares.
