Preserving the quintessence of H'Mong silver carving
NDO - Almost every H'Mong person in the Dong Van Stone Plateau, in Ha Giang province, knows about silver
They have maintained their distinctive culture of which traditional costumes, including elaborately carved silver jewelry, are an essential part.
The traditional clothes of the Black Lo Lo and Colorful Lo Lo are meticulous works, requiring imagination and time to prepare. In fact, a costume could take two or even three years to complete. Among the colors at play, red prevails, followed by white and pink, embellished with silver and aluminum jewelry.
The Lo Lo people believe silver jewelry helps ward off evil spirits and usually give it to their daughters as a dowry. Women usually wear from one to five necklaces at the same time.
