Anthony Gordon Praises Pedri, Sparks Controversy with Newcastle Remarks

In a recent interview, Anthony Gordon, the 25-year-old winger who joined Barcelona for £70 million this summer, expressed his admiration for teammate Pedri, suggesting that the young midfielder has significantly improved his ability to create chances and collaborate on the field. This comment, however, may not sit well with his former teammates at Newcastle United.

Gordon has been one of the standout performers for the England national team during the recent international break, scoring against Spain and the Czech Republic, and contributing to a 7-0 victory over Croatia. Since moving to Barcelona, he has also made an impressive start in La Liga, registering five assists in just six appearances.

In his remarks to Sport, Gordon stated, “I have made many runs throughout my career, but no one has seen them. Now I have Pedri, who sees everything. Adapting has been relatively easy because at Newcastle, we also played a similar style, pressing hard and attacking with a high line.” He further praised the current Barcelona squad, comparing it to the legendary team under Pep Guardiola that featured stars like Xavi and Andres Iniesta, emphasizing his desire for the current team to be remembered for their achievements.

These comments come shortly after Gordon had to clarify a statement regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold's limited playing time under coach Thomas Tuchel for the England team. During a live interview with ITV, he expressed his hope that Alexander-Arnold would get more playing time, apologizing for any misunderstanding.

Gordon was rested during England’s recent match against the Czech Republic, while teammate Eberechi Eze struggled to make an impact. Fans are eager to see Gordon return as Barcelona prepares to face Getafe on Saturday.
