Nguyễn Quang Hải, a midfielder for the Hanoi Police Football Club, will not be participating in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 alongside the Vietnam national football team. This news comes as a disappointment to Coach Kim Sang Sik and his squad as they gear up for the tournament scheduled to take place in Indonesia.

On September 22, the Vietnam national team officially gathered in Hanoi to prepare for the upcoming competition. However, Coach Kim Sang Sik received unfortunate news regarding Quang Hải's situation. The 29-year-old player unexpectedly requested to withdraw from the team due to an ankle injury.

The Hanoi Police Football Club confirmed that Quang Hải is currently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation for his injury, which has hindered his physical fitness. To prevent the risk of aggravating his condition, Quang Hải decided to step back from the national team's training camp.

This withdrawal marks another significant change in the team's lineup, as defender Thành Chung also previously exited due to injury. In response to these developments, Coach Kim Sang Sik has called up midfielder Ngô Đăng Khoa to fill the gap left by Quang Hải.

Ngô Đăng Khoa's inclusion provides Coach Kim with additional options as the team prepares to head to Indonesia. This opportunity also allows Đăng Khoa to continue his work with the national squad and aims for his debut appearance in the national team jersey.

Additionally, to bolster the squad, Coach Kim has summoned Võ Hoàng Minh Khoa, a midfielder born in 2001. Minh Khoa was part of the U23 Vietnam team that won the U23 Southeast Asia Championship 2023 and participated in the U23 Asian Championship 2024 in Qatar, before making his first appearance for the national team in a recent 5-0 victory against Laos during the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.

The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 will take place during FIFA Days in September 2026, featuring 14 teams divided into two divisions. Vietnam is placed in Division 1, in Group B alongside Thailand, the Philippines, and Pakistan. The team's schedule includes matches against the Philippines on September 26, Thailand on September 29, and Pakistan on October 2.
