Coach Dinh Hong Vinh revealed that after a disappointing draw against Kuwait, where Vietnam hit the woodwork four times, players suggested he wear a black shirt for better luck. He agreed and felt it brought them good fortune in the match.

During the game, Vietnam dominated possession with 67% and made 16 attempts on goal, three times more than their opponents. The breakthrough came in the 74th minute when defender Nguyen Duc Anh launched a long ball that caught the Philippine defense off guard. Nguyen Thanh Nhan seized the opportunity to score, flicking the ball over goalkeeper Nicholas Guimaraes.

Just before the end of the match, Nguyen Le Phat added another goal after a combination play, sealing the victory. Coach Vinh noted the challenge posed by the Philippines, who set up a defensive wall, but praised his team's adjustments during halftime that led to their success.

This win placed Vietnam at the top of Group C with four points, although they face a tough challenge ahead against Uzbekistan, who are expected to win against Kuwait. Coach Vinh emphasized the need for his players to recover physically and prepare strategically for the upcoming match, where they aim to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

Vinh acknowledged the quality of Uzbekistan, stating they have a well-trained team with strong technical skills and fitness. The U23 squad has faced Uzbekistan in previous friendly and official matches, which he believes will help them approach the game with confidence.
