PSG vs Slovan Bratislava: Champions League Match Preview

The much-anticipated Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Slovan Bratislava is set to take place on September 10, 2026, at 2:00 AM Vietnam time. This match marks a crucial moment for both teams as they navigate the challenges of the group stage in the prestigious tournament.

PSG began their Champions League journey last season with a slow start, finishing 11th in the group stage. However, under the guidance of coach Luis Enrique, they made a remarkable comeback, defeating teams like Monaco, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich, ultimately clinching the title against Arsenal in the final. After a tense 1-1 draw that extended to 120 minutes in Budapest, PSG triumphed in the penalty shootout, successfully defending their championship. This victory made them only the second team in Champions League history to win consecutive titles, following Real Madrid's success from 2016 to 2018.

Despite their recent success, PSG has struggled at the start of the new season. After winning the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa, they faced setbacks, including a loss to Lens in the French Super Cup and a disappointing performance in Ligue 1, where they currently sit at 13th place after failing to secure a win in their first four domestic matches. Their latest match saw them succumb to a comeback by Monaco, losing 2-1 at home.

On the other hand, Slovan Bratislava views their participation in the Champions League group stage as a significant achievement. The team, led by former Barcelona star Yaya Toure, has successfully navigated through eight consecutive Champions League qualifiers this summer, defeating teams such as Iberia Tbilisi and Swedish champions Mjallby, before overcoming Celje in the playoffs. Slovan recently won their national championship but currently finds themselves in fourth place after suffering two consecutive defeats.

The upcoming match is particularly crucial for Slovan, as they aim to improve their performance on the European stage. They previously faced PSG in the Europa League during the 2011-2012 season, where they lost 0-1 at Parc des Princes.

In terms of personnel, PSG has made significant changes to their attacking lineup, bringing in new players such as Mika Godts, Maghnes Akliouche, and Ferran Torres. These newcomers will compete with established stars like Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who had an impressive record last season with 16 direct goals in 16 Champions League matches.

Slovan's attack will likely rely on Tigran Barseghyan, who is expected to support experienced striker Andraz Sporar. Roman Cerepkai, one of Slovan's summer signings, may start on the bench as they prepare for this challenging encounter.

As the match approaches, both teams will be keen to secure a positive result, making this an exciting fixture in the Champions League calendar.
