Alexis Mac Allister, the midfielder for Liverpool, has openly shared his feelings of disappointment regarding the club's decision not to offer him a new contract. In a recent press conference ahead of Liverpool's Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid, Mac Allister admitted that he felt 'very sad' about the situation.

The 27-year-old Argentine international, who joined Liverpool in the summer of 2023, revealed that he has only two years remaining on his current deal. His disappointment has intensified as teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch recently signed long-term contracts with the club.

Mac Allister stated, 'There were opportunities to leave the club during the summer. As everyone knows, I received the news that the club was not in a position to make a new contract offer, which made me very, very sad.' He emphasized his commitment to Liverpool, saying, 'Everyone can see that I always give 100% for football at this club, every day in training and in matches.'

Despite his disappointment, Mac Allister has not had any direct conversations with the club's management regarding his contract situation, with all communications going through his representative. When asked if negotiations were ongoing, he replied, 'Maybe. I don't know. It will depend on how I perform this year. They also have their reasons for making such decisions, but I hope they will change their mind.'

Mac Allister reassured fans, stating, 'They don't need to worry because I will give 100% until the last day I am here.' Under new coach Andoni Iraola, he has started in the last two domestic league matches, contributing to Liverpool's unbeaten start with a draw against Nottingham Forest and a victory over Ipswich.

Commenting on his new coach, Mac Allister praised Iraola, saying, 'He is a really good coach. He knows exactly what he wants. Looking at how he wants us to play and train, I believe this could be a successful season.' Mac Allister was a key player in helping Liverpool win the Premier League in the 2024/25 season and the Carabao Cup the previous season. When asked if he needed to prove himself this season, he confidently stated that he does not need to prove anything but will maintain his high level to bring success to the club.
