Manchester United's £74 Million Gamble on Benjamin Sesko
Manchester United has invested £74 million in Benjamin Sesko, hoping to solidify their forward position.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has voiced his belief that striker Benjamin Šeško will soon find his form after a challenging start to the 2026–27 season. Despite being a joint top scorer last season, Šeško has struggled to make an impact this year, managing only 33 minutes across two substitute appearances without scoring.
Šeško, who netted 11 times in the Premier League last season, faced setbacks due to a calf injury that limited his participation in the latter part of the previous campaign. Although he had no World Cup commitments with Slovenia, he missed the entire preseason as he focused on building his fitness. Carrick remains optimistic, stating that the club expects “loads more” from the young striker as he continues to improve.
The 23-year-old forward is seen as a key player for Manchester United, especially since the club did not acquire a new forward during the summer transfer window. Carrick emphasized the importance of Šeško staying healthy to fulfill the role of the long-term starting No. 9. "Ben is improving his fitness all the time, and moving forward, we hope for no setbacks," Carrick noted, as the team prepares to face Everton.
Historically, Šeško has had slow starts, as seen in the previous season when he scored only twice in his first 11 Premier League matches. However, he managed to find his rhythm later on, scoring nine goals in a 14-match span from January to May. Carrick reassured fans that Šeško is still young and developing, with much more potential to showcase.
Despite some players expressing a desire for the club to sign another center forward, Carrick believes in Šeško's capabilities and the overall strength of the squad. The manager has also highlighted the club's recent signings, which have bolstered the team’s midfield and overall depth, creating a more robust squad than at the beginning of the transfer window.
As Manchester United looks to regain its competitive edge, the focus remains on Šeško's development and contributions to the team. With the right support and a healthy season ahead, fans are hopeful that he will soon deliver the performances expected of him.
