Enzo Fernandez Transfer: Manchester City Eyes £140 Million Deal

The summer transfer window is heating up, and one of the most talked-about potential deals involves Enzo Fernandez, who could leave Chelsea to join Manchester City for a staggering £140 million. Chelsea had previously set a price of £120 million for the Argentine midfielder, but after Manchester City's disappointing loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield, the club's owners recognized the need to invest more heavily in the squad.

Following the missed deadline set by Chelsea for a formal offer, Manchester City has resumed negotiations in the final days of the transfer window. Chelsea has since increased their asking price, stating that they will only part with Fernandez for £140 million. If this deal goes through, it would not only make Fernandez one of the most expensive signings in football history but also break the current Premier League transfer record, which is held by Alexander Isak's move to Liverpool for £125 million last summer.

Additionally, this transfer represents a reunion between Fernandez and his former coach Enzo Maresca, who is now at the helm of Manchester City. Maresca had previously worked with Fernandez at Chelsea and views him as an ideal addition to strengthen the midfield.

Manchester City has been actively selling players to fund this ambitious transfer. Tijjani Reijnders recently left for Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia for around £52 million, marking just the beginning of a series of player sales. The club has reportedly generated between £320 million to £350 million from player departures, including the sales of Omar Marmoush and Savinho to Tottenham, and Rodri's move to Barcelona for £65 million.

With approximately £230 million already spent on new signings, Manchester City is in a strong position to make a significant investment in Fernandez without heavily impacting their finances. The coming days will be crucial as the transfer window approaches its close, and fans are eager to see if this blockbuster deal materializes.
