Previously, Arsenal had made a verbal offer below £60 million, which was rejected by Newcastle. Despite Newcastle's insistence that their captain is not for sale, both parties are eager to finalize the deal soon. Guimarães is expected to undergo a medical examination after being granted permission to leave Newcastle's training camp in La Manga, Spain.

On the flip side, Ethan Nwaneri, a young talent at Arsenal, is likely to leave the club as part of this transfer saga. Reports from Carlo Pellegatti indicate that Arsenal is in advanced negotiations with RB Leipzig, with AC Milan also showing interest in the 19-year-old. Arsenal has set a price tag of £30-35 million for Nwaneri, along with a buy-back clause valued at £50 million for the future.

Nwaneri made history in 2022 as the youngest player to ever appear for Arsenal but struggled during his loan spell at Marseille, where he made only nine appearances. His lack of focus and disciplinary issues reportedly led to Marseille's decision not to pursue a permanent transfer. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged that Nwaneri's time at Marseille was not ideal but believes the experience will contribute to his growth.
