The USA, currently ranked sixth in the world, has a strong history in the VNL, having secured multiple silver and bronze medals. They advanced to the semifinals after a convincing 3-0 victory over Italy, the reigning world champions. Historically, the USA has dominated their encounters with Japan, winning 38 out of 50 matches, but Japan has recently gained the upper hand, winning their last three encounters in the VNL.
