Thailand's national football team coach, Anthony Hudson, expressed his desire for his team to have the same

Thailand's national football team is gearing up for the ASEAN Cup 2026 with high hopes of reclaiming the championship title from Vietnam. Midfielder Seksan Ratree emphasized the team's determination to win, stating that they are fully prepared for the tournament ahead of their opening match against Laos on July 25.
"We have prepared very well for the tournament. Every team has quality players, so we will not be complacent," Seksan said after the team's final training session in Thailand on July 22. The 22-year-old midfielder expressed the team's ambition to regain their status as the top team in Southeast Asia after losing the title to Vietnam in the last edition.
Head coach Anthony Hudson has called up several U23 players, which Seksan views as a positive sign for the future. The inclusion of young talents will not only provide them with valuable experience but also foster healthy competition within the squad. The team convened on July 14 and had only ten days to prepare before the tournament.
Despite the tight schedule, Hudson is confident that the team is ready, having focused on improving fitness and refining their playing style. "We have quite a few new faces, so it is crucial for everyone to understand the same way of playing," he stated. He also noted that players' physical conditions vary due to different preseason plans at their clubs, but he believes the team is in good shape for the match against Laos.
Goalkeeper Kampol Pathomakkakul warned his teammates not to underestimate the host team in their opening match, highlighting that the first game can always present challenges, especially as players are regaining their fitness after the mid-season break. Midfielder Sarach Yooyen acknowledged that the ASEAN Cup is never an easy tournament. He pointed out that teams must adapt to travel schedules, playing conditions, and the pressure from away fans.
"We started our preparations later than some other teams, so physical fitness is very important," Sarach said. However, he praised the coaching staff for significantly improving the team's fitness. As they enter the tournament, he stressed that there would be no excuses, and every player must give their all.
Defender Manuel Bihr noted the positive atmosphere within the team, thanks to the integration of young players. The team is determined not to use scheduling, weather, or preparation conditions as excuses. Thailand is placed in Group B of the ASEAN Cup 2026 alongside Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Myanmar, starting with their match against Laos on July 25, followed by encounters with Malaysia, the Philippines, and Myanmar.
