Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok spoke to Sheep Esports after T1's 3-1 defeat against G2 Esports in the Lower Bracket of MSI 2026. This loss marks a significant moment for T1, as it is their first series defeat to G2 since 2019 and the first time they have finished outside the top four at an international event.
In an interview, Faker shared his feelings about the loss, stating, "We lost today, and it wasn't the kind of loss we expected, so I feel disappointed. It's disappointing." He acknowledged G2's strong team movements but maintained that T1's performance did not meet their own expectations. "I think we simply didn’t play up to the level we expected," he noted.
Faker discussed the preparation leading up to the match, mentioning that T1 had analyzed G2's gameplay extensively. However, he felt that the execution did not align with their preparations. "In today's matches, the situations didn't really line up, so we didn't get many chances to bring out the picks we had prepared," he explained.
When asked about the draft issues that had previously been mentioned by his teammate Mun "Oner" Hyeon-jun, Faker admitted that while the draft wasn't perfect, the primary reason for their loss was the mistakes made during the game. "I think the main reason we lost was that we all made a lot of mistakes in our play," he said.
Despite the disappointing outcome, Faker expressed hope for future improvements. "I think this tournament showed us that our team still has shortcomings. Still, I hope that next time we'll be able to fill those gaps better," he remarked. He also emphasized the need to prepare for upcoming competitions, stating, "We have to start preparing for EWC very soon."
Faker concluded the interview by thanking the fans for their support, promising to deliver better performances in the future. "Thank you to all the fans who supported us. We'll show you a better performance next time," he said.
