Miroslav Klose Reveals Emotional Call from Messi After Record Broken

Miroslav Klose, the former German striker, recently revealed the heartfelt call he received from Lionel Messi after the Argentine superstar broke his World Cup scoring record. Klose, who held the record for 12 years, expressed his emotions regarding the call, stating that it was a touching moment for him.

Messi, who has been in exceptional form during the 2026 World Cup, surpassed Klose's record in just the second match of the tournament. Following this achievement, Messi reached out to Klose to express his respect and admiration. Klose shared that the call was arranged by Lionel Scaloni, the head coach of the Argentine national team and a former teammate of Klose at Lazio from 2011 to 2013.

Klose described the conversation as significant, noting that it was their first long discussion outside of their encounters on the pitch. He remarked, "Of course, we have faced each other on the field and always enjoyed mutual respect, but this call was special." Klose also mentioned that Messi promised to send him a signed jersey as a memento of the occasion.

Despite losing his record, Klose expressed no hard feelings, stating, "I have no issues with Messi breaking my record. Records are meant to be broken, and Messi deserves to be celebrated for it. I am a huge fan of Messi, and I always have been."

In addition to Messi, another player making headlines during the World Cup is Kylian Mbappe, who has scored seven goals so far, bringing his total World Cup goals to 19. Meanwhile, England's Harry Kane is also on track to challenge Klose's record with six goals this season.

As the tournament progresses, the football world continues to witness remarkable performances, with legends like Thierry Henry and Rivaldo praising Messi's competitive spirit and exceptional talent.
