Chelsea Eyes Granit Xhaka with €30M Offer Following Alonso's Request

Chelsea is reportedly preparing to make a significant move in the transfer market by offering €30 million for Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka. This decision comes after Chelsea's new manager, Xabi Alonso, urged the club's owners, BlueCo, to secure the talented player.

Xhaka, who is currently playing for Switzerland in the 2026 World Cup, has had an impressive season with Sunderland, making 32 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League. He contributed one goal and six assists, helping Sunderland finish seventh in the league and qualify for the upcoming Europa League campaign.

Having joined Sunderland from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 for £17.3 million, Xhaka has quickly established himself as one of the top performers in the league. His leadership and experience have been pivotal for Sunderland, and Alonso, who coached him at Bayer Leverkusen, is keen to reunite with the midfielder at Chelsea.

According to Italian journalist Luca Cerchione, Alonso's request has prompted Chelsea to act, with the club reportedly ready to make their first offer of €30 million (£26 million) for Xhaka. This move is part of Chelsea's strategy to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

This is not the first time Xhaka has been linked with a transfer away from Sunderland. In May, Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel expressed his belief that the Red Devils should pursue Xhaka, highlighting his leadership qualities and the impact he has had on Sunderland's success.

As Chelsea looks to bolster their midfield options, the potential signing of Granit Xhaka could prove to be a significant addition, especially with Alonso's familiarity with the player and his proven track record in the Premier League.
