The Webster City baseball team closed out a busy week with a pair of close losses at the Jim Gebhart Tournament held on Saturday. The Lynx faced tough competition, first falling to Van Meter with a score of 8-7, followed by a narrow defeat against the fourth-ranked Saydel team, losing 10-8.

In their first match against Van Meter, Webster City made an early statement by scoring three runs in the first inning. They maintained a lead, going up 6-2 after a strong three-run fourth inning. However, Van Meter rallied back, scoring five runs in the fifth inning to take control of the game. Carter Mickelson stood out with three hits and four RBIs, while teammates Jaxon Griffith and Braylon Dyvig each contributed two hits and scored twice. The Lynx also showcased their speed on the bases, stealing a total of six bases as a team, with Aiden Hrnicek stealing two of them.

In the subsequent game against Saydel, Webster City continued to fight hard. Griffith and Kaleb Hansen each scored two runs and had an RBI, while Syrus Willard drove in two runs. Hrnicek and Boston Farley added one RBI each, with Griffith stealing four bases and Hansen two. Despite their efforts, the Lynx could not secure a victory.

Last Friday, Webster City also faced Boone at home, where they lost 9-5. Farley again made a significant contribution with two RBIs, supported by Griffith, Dyvig, and Alex Staley, each adding an RBI to the scoreboard. The team’s next challenge will be a North Central Conference doubleheader against Clear Lake on Monday, starting at 5 p.m., where they will look to bounce back from these recent defeats.
