20-Year-Old Midfielder Sets World Cup Record in Switzerland's Victory

Switzerland secured a convincing 4-1 victory against Bosnia & Herzegovina in their World Cup match held on June 18 at the Los Angeles stadium. The game, which initially lacked excitement, saw Bosnia & Herzegovina employing a strong defensive strategy reminiscent of their previous match against Canada.

However, the tide turned in the 74th minute when Swiss coach Murat Yakin made crucial substitutions. Johan Manzambi, who had just entered the field, quickly made an impact by scoring the opening goal with a volley, making him the third youngest Swiss player to score in a World Cup at just 20 years and 247 days old.

Switzerland continued to capitalize on their momentum after Bosnia & Herzegovina's Tarik Muharemovic received a red card for a foul on Breel Embolo. In the 84th minute, Manzambi assisted Ruben Vargas, who extended the lead to 2-0. Manzambi's performance did not stop there; he completed a remarkable double by scoring again in the 90th minute, becoming the youngest substitute to score twice in a World Cup match.

Despite the loss, Bosnia & Herzegovina managed to score a consolation goal through Ermin Mahmic. However, Switzerland's Granit Xhaka sealed the match with a penalty kick, bringing the final score to 4-1. This victory not only puts Switzerland at the top of Group B with four points but also ends Bosnia & Herzegovina's nine-match unbeaten streak, increasing pressure on them as they prepare for their final match against Qatar.

With a total of 2.01 expected goals (xG), Switzerland showcased their offensive capabilities, while Bosnia & Herzegovina struggled with only 0.24 xG from five attempts. The match highlighted the potential of young talents like Manzambi, who is being hailed as one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe following his impressive season with Freiburg.
