NDO - The 39th National Nhan Dan Newspaper Table Tennis Championships – PetroVietnam Cup 2021 wrapped up at the Quang Nam Provincial Gymnasium on December 4 after seven days of competition.


In his closing remark, Que Dinh Nguyen, Deputy Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, stressed that despite difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and a long social distancing period, 110 players from 11 table tennis teams throughout the country devoted a series of exciting and thrilling games to the spectators.

In addition to established veteran players, this year’s event saw the rise of young players Dinh Anh Hoang, Tran Mai Ngoc, Nguyen Thuy Kieu My and Bui Ngoc Lan, who created nice surprises and spectacular victories against senior opponents, he noted.

He stressed that in the context that many tournaments have had to be suspended or cancelled due to the complicated developments of the COVID-19, the success of championship has brought about many valuable lessons for the national sports sector in the organisation of sporting events, particularly the upcoming 31st SEA Games and international tournaments in 2022.

Within the closing ceremony, the organising board presented prizes to the winners in seven categories, including men’s and women’s singles and doubles, mixed doubles, and team events.

Teams from Long Hai – Hai Duong and Ho Chi Minh City won the gold medals in the men’s and female’s team events, respectively.

Duo Le Dinh Duc and Dinh Anh Hoang (Hanoi T&T) were named winners in men’s doubles while Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh and Nguyen Bach Thanh Thu from the Ho Chi Minh City team claimed the championship title in the women’s doubles event.

Nguyen Duc Tuan and Bui Ngoc Lan from Long Hai – Hai Duong bagged the gold medal in mixed doubles.

Meanwhile, Tran Mai Ngoc of Hanoi T&T and Nguyen Duc Tuan from Long Hai - Hai Duong team were crowned champions of the men’s and women’s singles events, respectively.

The Most Promising Young Player Awards went to Nguyen Doan Thuc from the Hanoi T&T team and Bui Ngoc Lan from the Long Hai - Hai Duong team.
