Vietnam's Secretary General and President Tô Lâm, accompanied by his wife, is set to embark on an official visit to Russia and France from September 7 to 12. This visit comes in response to invitations from Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The Vietnamese delegation will participate in various high-level meetings and events, including the Space Summit in Paris. This trip marks a significant step in strengthening Vietnam's diplomatic ties with both Russia and France.

Vietnam and Russia share a long-standing traditional relationship, which was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2012. By 2025, the bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Russia is expected to reach $4.77 billion, reflecting a 4% increase compared to 2024. Vietnam's exports to Russia are projected to be nearly $2.3 billion, while imports from Russia are expected to exceed $2.5 billion. Currently, there are 223 Russian investment projects in Vietnam, with a total registered capital of approximately $996 million, placing Russia 28th among 153 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Conversely, Vietnam has 19 active investment projects in Russia, totaling $1.64 billion, ranking fourth among 88 countries investing in Russia.

As for France, the two nations upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2024. The bilateral trade volume is anticipated to reach around $6.3 billion by 2025, showing positive growth from 2024. France is ranked 16th among 153 countries investing in Vietnam, with 746 active investment projects and a total registered capital of about $4 billion. Vietnam has 20 active investment projects in France, amounting to a registered capital of $38.78 million.
