HCMC detects 350 more Covid-19 infections

HCMC - The Ministry of Health this morning, July 9 confirmed 425 new Covid-19 cases, including two imported cases in Thai Binh and Long An and 423 domestic ones in 10 provinces and cities, with HCMC accounting for the most, 350.

Long An came second with 37 infections, followed by Dong Nai with 15, Phu Yen with six, An Giang with five, Khanh Hoa with four, Bac Ninh with three and Vinh Phuc, Gia Lai and Bac Lieu with one each. As many as 377 cases were found at quarantine centers and in areas under lockdown.

The latest cases in HCMC raised HCMC’s caseload to 9,416 in the current fourth Covid-19 wave, which began in late April.

Since April 27, Vietnam has reported 21,340 locally-infected Covid-19 cases in 57 provinces and cities, with 6,176 patients having recovered from the disease.

As many as 12 localities have undergone 14 consecutive days without new Covid-19 infections.

In related news, Dong Nai Province began social distancing in line with the prime minister’s Directive 16 from 0 a.m. on July 9 for 15 days to prevent Covid-19 from spreading.

In line with the directive, all non-essential services and activities and passenger transport services are suspended.

The province allows production facilities, construction projects and suppliers of essential goods such as food, medicines and fuels to remain operational, but must strictly comply with Covid-19 safety protocols, the local media reported.

In addition, the province ordered firms to reduce the number of workers at a time and ensure shuttle transport services for employees operate in a safe manner.

As the Dong Nai Lung Hospital and the Dermatology Hospital of Dong Nai are full of patients, the province is planning to establish field hospitals at Thong Nhat District Healthcare Center and Tan Phu District Healthcare Center.

The 15 new cases raised Dong Nai Province’s Covid-19 count to 105 in the current fourth wave of Covid-19.

In another development, Bac Giang Province has detected a new coronavirus cluster at Bai An Vina Company in Bac Giang City as seven positive Covid-19 cases were found at the site within two days.

The provincial steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control yesterday reported six more Covid-19 infections linked to a worker of the firm through screening, while three other cases were detected at the Tan Yen coronavirus cluster.

The number of Covid-19 infections linked to the new cluster is expected to rise in the coming days, said the provincial steering committee, adding that the areas related to the new cluster were put under lockdown.

In the fourth coronavirus wave, Bac Giang Province has had 5,687 domestic Covid-19 cases, with over 4,800 patients having made a full recovery.
