A beauty contest aimed at honoring the ao dai and promoting Vietnam’s tourism activities kicked off on Sunday afternoon in Hanoi.

According to Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung, a representative of the Miss Ao Dai 2022 organizing committee, the competition seeks to find women who are prepared to devote themselves to promoting tourism in Vietnam and honoring the ao dai, a hallmark Vietnamese costume.

As the director of the 'Tourism and Trade Promotion in Digital Transformation' project, backed by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, and a big fan of the Vietnamese ao dai, Nhung wants to organize the Miss Ao Dai contest every two years as one of the events to spur tourism in the country.

Nhung hopes that the Miss Ao Dai Vietnam 2022 pageant will emphasize the beauty of Vietnamese women who wear the ao dai, support the society's overall effort to honor the country's traditional dress, and spread the word about a beautiful, culturally rich Vietnam.

The organizers wish to find individuals who do not only fit requirements for beauty, but also for compassion and talent. 

Candidates must be between 18 and 45 years old, while married candidates and those with plastic surgery are too accepted.

The Miss Ao Dai Vietnam 2022 final round will take place in the north-central province of Quang Binh on July 30. 

In addition to the primary awards such as Miss Ao Dai Vietnam, first runner-up, and second runner-up, the organizers also have a large number of additional prizes to award.
