The District 5 People's Committee in Ho Chi Minh City announced on Wednesday that a lion dance will be performed two evenings each month to attract local and international tourists, beginning July.

The lion dance performance is one of the first steps for the district to create a new cluster of tourism products in order to entice more tourists and accelerate economic recovery, according to Truong Minh Kieu, chairman of the People's Committee of District 5.

District 5 is currently collaborating with Fiditour - Vietluxtour Travel Company to produce the product chain Ky Uc Sai Gon Cho Lon (Memories of Saigon Cho Lon), which introduces the districr's traditional culture, particularly the culture and cuisine of the Chinese community.

Furthermore, the district will also promote historical sites, such as President Ho Chi Minh's memorial monument, Cho Quan Hospital's prison relic, and more.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee urged every district to work with tourism enterprises to develop tourism products based on accessible features so as to have city-specific services. 

These initiatives are geared toward ensuring that visitors to the city have a greater variety of activities to partake in and reasons to return.

The director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, stated that the city's tourism business is presently utilizing technological tools to compile cultural tourism resources and historical information from districts.

With the idea that each district has its own unique tourism brand, the municipal administration will establish a basis for districts to update, refine, and develop tourism products.

"These items will be employed by the department in collaboration with the districts to conduct standard city tours," Hoa said.

“Not only are there products that connect the districts but there are also particular services focused on heritage and education, as well as waterway products.”

Tourism is a crucial industry in the city's economic recovery program, said Phan Thi Thang, vice-chairwoman of the municipal People's Committee.

The rise of the tourism industry can also be extensive, leading to the recovery of many other sectors in the chain, ranging from transportation to culinary and cultural services.

As a result, diversifying tourism services can assist communities in retaining visitors for a longer amount of time, so if they return, they will not become bored owing to the increased variety of activities.
