Tens of thousands of people flocked to the first-ever pedestrian zone in Nghe An Province on Friday evening while a throng of tourists visited the north-central Vietnamese province’s Cua Lo Town on the same night for the opening ceremony of the Cua Lo Tourism Festival 2022.

Authorities in Vinh City, Nghe An officially inaugurated the province’s maiden walking space covering Ho Tung Mau, Nguyen Van Cu, and Nguyen Trai Streets on Friday night.

The highlight of the 1.5-kilometer pedestrian zone, which will be open to visitors from 7:00 pm to 11:30 pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, is the colorful musical fountain stretching nearly 1,000 square meters.

The space is dedicated for residents’ leisurely walking, relaxation, and shopping.

In celebration of its inauguration, the authorities offered a wide range of cultural music and dance performances on Friday evening.

“My family come here to visit the pedestrian zone and go for a walk for both entertainment and exercise purposes during the weekend,” said Tran Van Dung, a 57-year-old resident of Vinh City.

Tran Quang Lam, deputy chairman of the city, said that the local authorities are open to feedback on the pedestrian zone’s operation for improvement and upgrade in the coming time.

On the same evening, thousands of people visited Cua Lo Town, some 25 kilometers away from the pedestrian zone, to enjoy a 15-minute firework show as part of the opening ceremony for the Cua Lo Tourism Festival 2022.

The annual event, held much earlier than previous editions, is expected to revitalize the local tourism after two years of COVID-19 hiatus.

Restaurants and hotels around the area are set to welcome more guests than the past two years, while an array of tours has been offered to meet the diverse needs of visitors to Cua Lo.
