Vietnamese photographer Nguyen Phuc Thanh's photograph of a flower street vendor was one of the winners of the National Awards at the Sony World Photography Awards 2022.
The World Photography Organization and Sony established the National Award category this year to support emerging photographers around the world.
The intriguing point is that regardless of the locations depicted in the photographs, the awards will recognize the winning photographers' nationalities.
Nguyen Phuc Thanh is a well-known photographer in Vietnam and throughout the world. He was also a winner of the 2019 Sony World Photography Awards for his work "Long Coc," which was shot in the northern province of Phu Tho.
He was again a winner this year with his work Xe Dap va Hoa (Bike with Flowers).
Nguyen Phuc Thanh captured this image of a flower vendor riding her bicycle loaded with fresh flowers past Hanoi's Ceramic Road, a nearly four-kilometer stretch of road that runs alongside the Hong (Red) River.
The Ceramic Road, constructed entirely of tesserae from Bat Trang, a village renowned for centuries-old traditional pottery, was certified by Guinness World Records in 2010 as the world's largest ceramic mosaic.
The Sony World Photography Awards 2022 received over 340,000 entries from 211 countries, with over 170,000 entries in the Open category alone.
Some 61 National Award winners were chosen from the Open category.
The winners will have their photos featured in the Sony World Photography Awards book, and the exhibition at Somerset House, in London, which is scheduled to take place from April 13 to May 2.
The Sony World Photography Awards competition has been running for several years and garnered millions of submissions.
