Ho Thi Ky Food Street, located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City’s District 10, is vibrant again after months of being shut down due to COVID-19.
In recent years, the street has risen to fame as one of the most crowded venues for street food in the southern city, with a wide range of both Vietnamese and foreign-inspired dishes at affordable prices.
Ho Thi Ky Food Street featured in a food tour led by Tuoi Tre News' host Alyshia Turchyn in October 2020.
Normally open from 2:00 pm until late at night, the street is located down a small alley next to the famous Ho Thi Ky Flower Market and attracts both young locals and tourists visiting the city.
Like many other places in Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Thi Ky Food Street had been put on hold for months since the city was hit hard when the fourth virus wave erupted on April 27.
Local authorities implemented many social distancing measures and restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus including suspending food and drink services.
It was not until early September that they allowed food and drink providers to operate again, offering takeout only amid the eased pandemic situation.
In the latest move, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade on Tuesday proposed allowing food service establishments to resume both takeout and dine-in services, except for businesses selling beer and wine.
The establishments must adhere to pandemic prevention regulations and are allowed to stay open until 9:00 pm every day with half of their normal capacity.
