Famed Vietnamese photographer Thai Phien’s latest nude collection launched online

Famed Vietnamese photographer Thai Phien has released his latest collection – a series of nude photos celebrating the beauty of the female body titled 'Nang Sau Rem' (Sunlight through the Veil) – over the Internet.

While the history of nude photography went as far back as photography itself, it is still a ‘sensitive’ artistic mode that faces rigid scrutiny in Vietnam.

Thai Phien, a veteran photographer and keen advocate of nude art, has put in relentless efforts in convincing the local culture authority for over 10 years until he obtained the permission for his first nude exhibition ‘Mien Co Tich’ (Fairytale Land) in 2018.

Photographer Thai Phien is ready to shoot nude photographs in a project.

In late June, he launched his latest nude display 'Nang Sau Rem,' which showcases 28 photos of seven female yoga teachers taken throughout 2020 while Vietnam was battling its first few waves of COVID-19.

“I wanted to emphasize the importance of health, exercises, and reinforcing immunity while staying inside, all of which are important for us to keep in mind during the pandemic,” Thai Phien said.

The photographer opted for natural light, using sunlight passed through a blind and cast onto his subjects to illuminate the curves of their bodies.

As social distancing measures and travel restrictions are still in place in Vietnam due to the recent resurgence of the coronavirus, Thai Phien chose to launch his exhibition online.

Using any web browser, visitors can navigate a simulation of a real-life exhibition space, viewing the works hanging on virtual walls in any order they choose.

Thai Phien is currently working with digital art specialist Binh Pham to showcase feature works from the collections in the virtual exhibition space.
