Watching jets land just meters from one of world’s most beautiful beaches in Vietnam

A beach on Con Dao Islands off southern Vietnam which has been famous for its fantastic scene of jets' low landing overhead has recently been listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Bai Dam Trau, or Dam Trau Beach, was named amongst the '25 Most Beautiful Beaches in the World' by New York-based travel magazine Travel + Leisure on April 12.

Although Vietnam has dozens of gorgeous beaches to choose from, Travel + Leisure writer Anne Olivia Bauso chose to spotlight Dam Trau.

“Bai Dam Trau in the Con Dao islands is certainly a top contender,” the author wrote.

“With distinct golden sand, soft swells, and shady groves of bamboo and evergreen trees, it's the kind of place to spend the day gently swinging in a hammock with a beach read and walking in the surf with a freshly hacked coconut.”

The Travel + Leisure author was also awed by the beach’s prime location, writing “the islands' nearby airport means commercial jets fly thrillingly close, bringing momentary excitement (or disruption, to some) to the otherwise idyllic spot.”

Watching jets descending overhead while enjoying the beach is no secret to travel enthusiasts in Vietnam.

“By far the coolest beach on Con Dao is Dam Trau Beach,” American travel blogger Samantha told Tuoi Tre News about her trip to the islands in March.

“Motorbike there, eat fresh seafood, and lounge on the beach while you wait for incoming planes to make their landing!

"My friend and I stayed all afternoon trying to guess when they’d arrive.”

A post about Dam Trau on Samantha’s Instagram handle – @thereshegoesagn – amazed many of her 40,000 followers, several of whom praised the beach for its unique location.

“As soon as you arrive, you’ll see a few outdoor seafood spots with loungers on the beach – perfect for sitting and watching as the planes land dangerously low!" she later described on her blog There She Goes Again.

"Like you can literally see the start of the landing runway if you go into the water."

Besides Dam Trau Beach, other Asian beaches on the Travel + Leisure list include Saud Beach in Luzon, the Philippines and Railay West in Krabi, Thailand.
