At the seminar on developing the semiconductor industry and artificial intelligence, organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment on the morning of December 11 in Hoa Lac, Mr Jensen Huang assessed that AI is becoming a new wave and an important condition for the development of every country. He commented that Vietnam is ready for new technology and will invest in improving human capacity and infrastructure for Vietnam.

"We promised the prime Minister that we would establish Nvidia's second home in Vietnam. In Vietnam, we will set up a legal entity," Mr. Huang declared.

According to Nvidia CEO, countries need three components to take advantage of the AI wave and "Vietnam has enough". The first is data assets about language and culture after decades of digitization, and people are ready to use mobile platforms. The second is the human resources, and the third is the infrastructure.

"Artificial intelligence is software, and people create software. To have a strong force of software experts like Vietnam is not easy," he said.

However, after having all the ingredients, Vietnam must have a strong vision and commitment to developing new technology. A spokesperson from Nvidia stated that Vietnam may train to increase capacity to support AI research using the current engineering staff, and Nvidia will take part in this process.

Mr. Huang promised to open a design centre in Vietnam. He said that Vietnam could produce "a million "AI engineers" and is the most potent team of AI engineers in the world, pointing out that the country is home to numerous computer scientists who work worldwide and is one of the biggest software exporters. Nvidia will also cooperate with domestic partners to develop AI infrastructure, including supercomputers, data centres, and research and development centres.

"This trip will open up future trips. I will return to Vietnam and Nvidia's second homeland," he said.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment, proposed that Nvidia research and implement investment projects on semiconductors and artificial intelligence in Vietnam. "The Vietnamese government is committed to creating favourable conditions for Nvidia to operate here," he said.

The Minister also asked Nvidia to consider building an R&D facility and semiconductor chip design laboratory in Vietnam's high-tech park and, at the same time, advise and support training facilities with resources and develop training and practice programs in the field of semiconductors and artificial intelligence; create conditions for Vietnamese engineers and students to participate in internships and work at Nvidia.

Regarding the previous "food tour", Mr Huang said: "This is my first time coming to Vietnam, and I discovered many interesting things. I ate at the market, and people recognized me. I am also a celebrity in Vietnam. I feel very welcomed, like coming home. Thank you very much."

On December 9, after arriving in Hanoi, the 60-year-old billionaire dressed comfortably in a T-shirt and black jeans and enjoyed Vietnamese street food with his staff. He chose a sidewalk restaurant on Luong Ngoc Quyen Street, sat on a plastic chair, had snails and rolls on the table, and drank beer. He also stopped by another restaurant on Hang Non Street, ate beef pho, and drank coconut water.

The desire for his company's graphics chip models made Jensen Huang, co-founder of Nvidia, a "star" in the semiconductor sector. He was raised in Taiwan and Thailand after being born in Taipei in 1963. With a seed investment of USD 40,000, he and two pals, Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem, created Nvidia in 1993.

Analysts said the company had launched the H100, the most potent GPU graphics processor available then, at the incorrect moment in 2022 since companies were looking to cut costs and lay off employees. But by the end of the year, ChatGPT unexpectedly became popular worldwide, increasing demand for Nvidia's AI chips. Nvidia's capitalization value increased from 400 billion in January to 1,000 billion USD at the end of May.
