The incident took place at Hang Day Stadium, where Van Hau stepped on Tan's ankle while he was attempting to clear the ball, resulting in an injury that forced Tan to leave the field.

The foul led to Van Hau receiving his first career red card after the referee reviewed the incident via video footage. The match concluded with Hanoi Police defeating the Military Team 1-0. Following the incident, Tan was diagnosed with a lower fibula injury and ankle ligament damage, which will sideline him for about a week, causing him to miss the upcoming AFC Champions League match against Melbourne Victory.

In response to the foul, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) imposed a four-match ban and a fine of 20 million VND on Van Hau, citing the severity of the physical assault as outlined in their disciplinary regulations.
