Chelsea has rewarded Pedro Neto for his strong performance at the start of the season by offering him a new contract, following significant interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City. The Portugal international has signed a five-year deal with the option for an additional year, which comes with a pay increase.

Neto, who has been utilized as an attacking wingback by manager Xabi Alonso, has already scored twice in just five appearances this season. Since joining Chelsea from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £54 million in 2024, he has contributed to 40 goal involvements, showcasing his value to the team.

The decision to extend Neto's contract aligns with Chelsea's strategy of rewarding key players with long-term, incentivized deals. Other prominent players, including João Pedro, Reece James, and Moisés Caicedo, have also received improved contracts this year. Cole Palmer had previously committed his future to the club in 2024.

Despite the club's willingness to offer lengthy contracts, Chelsea has demonstrated that strong performances can lead to pay increases. This is evident in Neto's case, where his commitment to the club has been recognized with a new deal, contrasting with the situation of Enzo Fernández, who was sold to Manchester City for £125 million after expressing a desire to leave.

Fernández's departure raised concerns about leadership within the team, particularly as Chelsea struggled last season, finishing 10th and missing out on European qualification. His public comments regarding his future and the sacking of former coach Enzo Maresca contributed to a breakdown in his relationship with the club, ultimately leading to his transfer.

In contrast, Neto's renewal is seen as a positive sign that key players are committed to Chelsea's project under Alonso, and further contract renewals are anticipated in the near future.
