Ronald Araújo is set to make a significant move in his career as he leaves FC Barcelona to join Liverpool on a loan deal. The agreement has been confirmed, with Liverpool retaining a non-mandatory purchase option of €55 million. This transfer has received the green light from Deco, the sporting director of Barcelona, and has been reported by various sources, including Fabrizio Romano.

The Uruguayan defender's departure is unexpected, especially with Barcelona's first league match against Elche approaching on August 23. Araújo had recently renewed his contract with Barcelona until 2031, and there were speculations about a potential transfer to Juventus in the past. However, a change in circumstances allowed him to continue with the Catalan club until now.

As he joins Liverpool, Araújo will fill the gap left by Ibrahima Konaté, who transferred to Real Madrid. At Liverpool, he will compete for defensive positions alongside notable players such as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Jacquet, and Leoni.

Araújo, 27, began his career with Rentistas and Boston River before moving to Barcelona's B team, where he spent two years. He has made a total of 213 appearances for the first team, scoring 14 goals and providing seven assists. Last season, he played 35 matches across all competitions, a decrease attributed to personal requests related to anxiety and mental health issues, which led him to take a brief hiatus in Israel.

On the international stage, Araújo has represented Uruguay 27 times. Unfortunately, an injury during training prevented him from participating in the 2026 World Cup held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
