The Manchester United family is mourning the loss of Alex Hughes, the son of club legend Mark Hughes, who tragically passed away at the age of 38. An inquest held at Cheshire Coroners Court has revealed that Alex died from sudden adult death syndrome after collapsing at his home in Prestbury, Cheshire, on June 19.

Emergency services were called after Alex was discovered unconscious by his two sons around 7 am. Medical professionals later concluded that his death was due to sudden adult death syndrome, a condition that can occur without warning.

Mark Hughes, a decorated former player for Manchester United, expressed his heartbreak in a statement released through the League Managers Association. He stated, “Jill and I are totally heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son Alex.”

Despite being the son of a football icon, Alex Hughes forged his own path within the sport. He began his career as a player but transitioned into football operations and recruitment, where he made a significant impact. He became a licensed football agent and served as an academy manager at VSI Rio Maior in Portugal for three years.

At the time of his passing, Alex was the head of player recruitment at Grimsby Town and had previously held the position of director of football at AFC Fylde. His dedication to identifying and developing talent earned him widespread respect within the football community.

Mark Hughes, who won numerous titles with Manchester United including two Premier League titles and three FA Cups, remains a celebrated figure in the club's history.
