Neymar's Future: No Retirement Plans, Says Father

Sao Paulo (AFP) – Brazilian football sensation Neymar recently avoided making any statements regarding his retirement as he approaches the end of his contract with Santos. While Neymar expressed uncertainty about his future, stating, "When my contract ends, I will think about whether I continue at Santos, leave, or stop playing altogether. I really don’t know what I will do," his father and representative, Neymar da Silva Santos, was more definitive. He asserted that Neymar, now 34, will keep playing football.

Neymar, who recently retired from the Brazilian national team following the North American World Cup, still has a contractual commitment with Santos until December. During a charity auction he organized in Sao Paulo, he emphasized his current focus on physical well-being and taking things one step at a time, especially after facing numerous injuries in recent years.

His father, when asked about Neymar's future, remarked, "Neymar loves playing football. What else would he do? He doesn’t have a medical degree, so he will continue playing." Currently, Santos is competing in the Copa Sudamericana and striving to maintain its position in Brazil's top football division.

In a related note, in 2025, a Brazilian court dismissed Neymar's request to prevent the release of a podcast that portrayed his father as a "greedy" businessman influencing many of his career decisions.
