India’s Tanvi Sharma has reached the women’s singles final at the Taipei Open 2026 badminton tournament, showcasing her talent and determination. In the semi-finals held on Saturday, Tanvi, unseeded and ranked 34th in the world, faced off against fifth seed Huang Yu-Hsun from Chinese Taipei. The match concluded in just 33 minutes, with Tanvi winning decisively with scores of 21-17, 21-11.

Throughout the first game, Tanvi maintained a strong lead, with Huang only managing to tie the score once at 3-3. The second game saw a brief challenge as both players were level at 9-all, but Tanvi surged ahead, scoring six consecutive points to secure her victory.

This final will mark Tanvi Sharma’s second appearance in a BWF Super 300 final, having previously finished as the runner-up at the US Open last year. At just 17 years old, she is yet to claim a title in a BWF tournament, having faced setbacks in the finals of the 2024 Odisha Masters and the 2025 Guwahati Masters, both of which were Super 100 events.

In the final, Tanvi will compete against Nguyen Thuy Linh from Vietnam, who reached this stage by defeating India’s Unnati Hooda. Unnati, the third seed, was unable to overcome Nguyen, losing the match 21-15, 21-18. Despite leading in the second game at 16-11, Unnati could not maintain her advantage as Nguyen mounted a strong comeback.

India's representation in the men’s singles category concluded in the quarter-finals, with Kiran George exiting the tournament. HS Prannoy also faced an early exit in the round of 16. The Indian doubles campaign ended earlier in the week with Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu losing their opening match.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Tanvi Sharma as she aims for her first major title in the final against Nguyen Thuy Linh on Sunday.
