Ibrahim Sangaré and Ivory Coast's Road to the 2026 World Cup

Ivory Coast is set to return to the World Cup stage in 2026 after a lengthy 12-year absence, with hopes of finally breaking through to the knockout rounds. The team, which previously qualified for three consecutive World Cups from 2006 to 2014, has faced challenges in advancing past the group stages despite having notable players like Didier Drogba and Yaya Touré in their ranks during the 2000s and 2010s.

Under the leadership of head coach Emerse Faé, the Ivorian squad is filled with talent, including current stars such as Ibrahim Sangaré from Nottingham Forest. The team will compete in Group E, facing formidable opponents including Germany, Ecuador, and Curaçao. Their first match is scheduled for June 14, 2026, against Ecuador, followed by a clash with Germany on June 20, and concluding with a match against Curaçao on June 25.

The Ivory Coast national team has shown resilience in recent years, winning the Africa Cup of Nations twice since their last World Cup appearance. However, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the latest Africa Cup of Nations tournament earlier this year. With a mix of experienced players and emerging talents, the team is eager to make a significant impact in the upcoming World Cup.

The full squad for the 2026 World Cup includes goalkeepers Yahia Fofana, Mohamed Kone, and Alban Lafont; defenders Emmanuel Agbadou, Christopher Operi, and Ousmane Diomande; midfielders Seko Fofana, Franck Kessié, and Ibrahim Sangaré; and forwards Simon Adingra, Nicolas Pepe, and Elye Wahi, among others.

As the World Cup approaches, fans are hopeful that this talented group can finally overcome the barriers that have held them back in previous tournaments and achieve a historic run.
