HCMC – The government of HCMC will build more multistorey carparks in the coming time to meet the huge demand for parking spaces.

According to Ha Ngoc Truong, vice chairman of the Association of Bridges, Roads and Ports in HCMC, the general planning on bus stations and parking spaces lacks synchronization, impeding their development.

Truong Trung Kien, deputy director of the HCMC Planning and Architecture Department, said there is an inconsistency in the number of bus stations and parking spaces in the city’s planning.

Some planned carparks have not completed their site clearance, others have yet to have traffic access, and some projects are facing regulatory bottlenecks, such as the September 23 Park and Le Van Tam Park.

The city’s carparks currently have a total area of 250 hectares and have yet to satisfy the demand, according to the director of the HCMC Transport Department.

Poor infrastructure, capital shortages, and unattractive investment forms make it tough to attract investors, said the director, adding planning would be revised to focus on building multistorey carparks, instead of underground ones.

The city has approved five bus stations with total investment capital of roughly VND1,000 billion. In addition, investments will be made in four additional parking spaces for 2025 – 2030, which is expected to meet the demand.
