52 New Zealand students select Vietnam for their journey to become global citizens

Implemented since 2013, the PMSA Scholarship not only helps talented and ambitious New Zealand students have opportunity to study and pratice in dynamic Asian countries, but also gives them the opportunity to live and experience Eastern culture.



Vietnam is currently one of the favorite destinations on the map of Asian for New Zealand students when applying for PMSA Scholarship. From 2013 to 2019, 143 New Zealand students chose Vietnam as a destination for intership and resreach. The promotion of Vietnam as a destination for New Zealand students to receive PMSA Scholarship to increase regional understading is an important part of the educational cooperation between Vietnam – New Zealand, and is concretized as one of the goals of the Strategic Cooperation Plan on Education for the period 2020 – 2023 between the Vietnamese Ministry of Educaion and Training and Education New Zealand – ENZ.

Ben Burrowes, Regional Director, Asia at Education New Zealand, said: “Global citizenship continues to be one of the three key objectives of our International Education Strategy in the years to come. Fostering opportunities for students to learn in a multicultural environment is one meaningful way to equip young people with global thinking and competence. With the reopening of New Zealand borders, not only do we look forward to welcoming Vietnamese students back to New Zealand, but it also presents a great opportunity for Kiwi students to undertake some intellectual exchange programmes with countries that are rich in culture and economic potential such as Vietnam."

Thanks to PMSA, many New Zealand students find strong friendship across border, really live and experience different cultures and thereby open up many possibilities for cooperation with partners in the area of their future field and industry. This is also one of the New Zealand Goverment’s efforts to create the neccesary stepping stones to help equip students with the skills sets that employers around the world looking for, in order to become global citizens.

The PMSA (individual recruitment application) for New Zealand students is currently accepting applications until August 31, 2022.
