Vietnam confirm four more Covid-19 cases Sunday morning

Two of the new patients are Vietnamese repatriated from Russia and quarantined upon entry, the Ministry of Health said.

“Patient 587” and “Patient 588” flew from Russia to the Van Don Airport in northern Quang Ninh Province on July 17, before being quarantined in the Hoa Binh General Hospital in the nearby Hoa Binh Province. They tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Saturday.

21 others on the same flight had previously been confirmed infected as well.

“Patient 589” is a 42-year-old man in HCMC who traveled to Da Nang as a tourist. He’s currently treated at the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases. As of Sunday, over 26,600 people returning to HCMC from Da Nang have medically informed themselves to authorities, of whom over 16,400 are tested for the novel coronavirus. Over 2,300 samples have returned negative and three returned positive, later confirmed as patients numbered 510, 517 and 518.

“Patient 590” is a 40-year-old man in Quang Ngai who has had close contact with another Covid-19 patient at Da Nang Hospital, where dozens of Covid-19 cases have been recorded over the past week. He tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Saturday and is currently treated at a medical facility in Quang Ngai.

Vietnam has recorded 44 new cases in the last 24 hours. Since Covid-19 resurfaced among the community on Saturday last week, Da Nang has recorded 104 cases, becoming the epidemic epicenter. The central Quang Nam Province has reported 26 cases, HCMC eight, Hanoi two, Quang Ngai two and northern Thai Binh and Central Highlands’ Dak Lak provinces one each, all linked to Da Nang.

The country has recorded 590 cases in total, of whom 373 have been announced recovered and three announced dead. Over 94,000 have been quarantined, most of them either in quarantine zones or their own homes.

The pandemic has killed over 687,600 globally.
