The number of foreign tourists in Vietnam drops by 70.6% in 9 months
The reason is that Vietnam continues to implement measures to prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic, and has not reopened international flights, so visitors are mostly international experts and technicians working in the Vietnam.
According to the General Statistical Office, Vietnam welcomed 13900 international visitors, a drop of 15.5% over one month and 99.1% over one year.
For the first nine months, the number of foreign tourists is estimated at nearly 3.8 million, down 70.6% compared to the same period last year, including more than 97% in the 1st quarter of 2020..
Of these tourists, most came from Asia (over 277 million), representing 73.1% of the number of international arrivals in Vietnam and a decrease of 72.7% year on year. The number of tourists from Europe is also down, estimated at 58.6% compared to the same period last year.
According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), domestic tourism will recover faster than international tourism, creating a good opportunity for countries to bounce back from the pandemic. UNWTO encourages countries to focus on their marketing, promotion and financial support programs to soon revive the national tourism market.
In the context of a well-controlled epidemic on the national territory, on September 18 the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched a program to revive domestic tourism during the last months of 2020 with the theme “The tourism in Vietnam is safe and attractive ”.
The deputy director general of the National Tourism Administration Ha Van Sieu said that with these two key elements of "safe" and "attractive", tourism activities should regain color in the coming months.
