Former Party chief Le Kha Phieu passes away, aged 89
Former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Le Kha Phieu.
Born in 1931 in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa, Mr. Phieu held many positions in the military, the highest being Colonel General and head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army.
He served as the Party Central Committee’s General Secretary from December 1997 to April 2001 and was a deputy to the 10th National Assembly.
During his tenure as the Party chief, Mr. Phieu made enormous contributions to national development and defense.
His funeral and other ceremonies will be announced later.
