HCMC – A batch of 13 tons of medical supplies donated by Switzerland to help Vietnam to deal with the latest Covid-19 resurgence arrived at the HCMC-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport this morning, August 13.
The relief aid, worth five million francs (US$5.4 million), included 30 ventilators, 500,000 antigen test kits and 280,000 medical face masks. The consignment was sent by the Swiss Humanitarian Aid, which is part of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
A cargo plane transporting the supplies took off from Zurich on August 11 for HCMC, which is currently Vietnam’s biggest coronavirus hotspot in the on-going fourth wave.
The donation was earlier announced at a meeting between Switzerland's Vice President and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and top Vietnamese officials during his official visit to Vietnam from August 4 to 6.
The Swiss leader praised Vietnam’s efforts in responding to the coronavirus waves and added that the two countries need to continue to share mutual experience to combat the pandemic to gradually ease border restrictions, restore the economy and tighten bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector.
