Breaking: Vietnam records highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases
The Health Ministry confirmed 346 new local Covid-19 cases Saturday night, sending the day’s tally to 914, the highest number in a day since the disease broke out in Vietnam.
The country has recorded 15,630 cases in 52 of its 63 cities and provinces since the fourth Covid-19 wave broke out in the nation on April 27
Vietnam records highest daily Covid tally at 914, of the night’s cases, 250 were recorded in Ho Chi Minh City, taking the total daily cases in the southern metropolis to 714, its second highest number after 724 on June 25.
The remaining cases were reported in Dong Nai Province (32), Quang Ngai (16), Phu Yen (14), Tien Giang (12), Nghe An (seven) and Binh Duong (six), Binh Dinh (five) and Ba Ria-Vung Tau (four).
In HCMC, 220 cases were found in quarantine zones and locked down areas. 30 others are being contact traced.
In major industrial hub Dong Nai, 29 cases have been quarantined following contact tracing and three others returned from the neighboring HCMC.
All new cases in the central provinces of Quang Ngai and Phu Yen were found in quarantine zones and locked down areas.
In the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, 11 new patients were in close contacts with previously confirmed patients and the remaining returned from hotspot HCMC.
In the north central province of Nghe An, five cases had already been isolated while the remaining two are being contact traced.
In major industrial hub Binh Duong Province, which also borders HCMC, two patients were detected in quarantine zones, one is linked to the cluster at a company in Thu Dau Mot Town and the remaining three cases returned from HCMC.
In the south central province of Binh Dinh, two cases had already been in quarantine and the remaining three are being contact traced.
In the southern province Ba Ria-Vung Tau, two patients returned from its neighbor HCMC and had been quarantined, one was in close contact with a previously confirmed patient and the remaining case is linked to the cluster at Binh Dien wholesale market in HCMC’s District 8.
With the latest additions, Vietnam has recorded 15,630 cases in 52 of its 63 cities and provinces since the fourth Covid-19 wave broke out in the nation on April 27.
Bac Giang still leads with 5,710 cases, with HCMC closing in at 5,437 cases.
The health ministry also recorded 248 recoveries on Saturday, raising the number of people having recovered from Covid-19 in Vietnam to 7,643, out of a total of 19,043 infections, according to VNExpress.
