Thousands to join VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020
Some 5500 people will join in the VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 (VPHM).
Cau Giay Runners Club prepare for the competition.
This is an official sports event during Vietnam’s 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship and the first large event after the second wave of Covid-19 in Vietnam.
Participants can join the marathon online as well as in-person. It is estimated that about 2500 people will join the marathon competition online from 11 provinces and cities in Vietnam including Quang Ninh, Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Nha Trang provinces and Hue and Nha Trang cities. 100 members from Binh Duong Runner Club, Mekong Delta Runner Club, Danang Runner Club and Sunday Running Club will also participate.
Over 20 clubs in Hanoi have registered to join and 14 clubs will help with the organising process and management work at the check-points.
Anh Nam Best from Ho Lon Team said, “We have participated in the kick-off events for the marathon competition and helped to set up the check-points. Over 100 members are assigned different jobs including pacer and support crew.”
Nguyen Ha Vu from Cau Giay Runners Club said he had test-run some sections of the route a week before the start of the competition. Everyone is looking forward to the competition after running contests were banned for months due to Covid-19.
“I hope this will become an annual competition for the running community in Vietnam,” he said.
VPBank Hanoi Marathon 2020 also has many check-points in the US, Ireland, Australia and other countries.
David O’Reilly from Ireland said he will join the competition online and sent a hello to fellow runners in Vietnam.
Jason Marathoner from the US said he will share the images and promote the competition to people in the US.
The participants must complete the 42-km distance on October 182020. Non professional athletes can join the 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km distance competitions.
