More than 93700 foreign workers in Vietnam

In the first half of this year, the number of foreign workers in Vietnam fell 2316% compared to the same period of 2019. Now localities and foreign diplomatic representations in Vietnam are requesting permission from the entry of foreigners into Vietnam for work, around more than 7250 workers, mainly those from China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. These focus on key projects in the country, projects applying new technologies of multinational groups.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the number of foreign employees in the country came mainly from Asian countries like China, the Republic of Korea and Japan, accounting for 73% of the total; followed by European countries (21.6%) and North America (2.4%).
Decree 143/2018 /ND-CP entered into force on 1 er December 2018. It stipulates that foreigners working in Vietnam with a work permit, an exercise certificate or an exercise license issued by the Vietnamese authorities and under indefinite employment contracts or contracts of at least one year must purchase social insurance. As with Vietnamese employees, the social insurance system for foreigners covers sickness, maternity, occupational disease and accident, retirement benefits.
