Earlier, the department worked with Japanese experts to inspect the processed fruits in a plant in Bac Giang province, confirming their good quality before being exported.

The first importers, Sunrise farm and Yufruits Co Ltd., are waiting for the appearance of Vietnamese litchi fruits to be sold at Japanese supermarket system. As planned, these are 2 main importers and distributors of Vietnamese fresh litchi in 2020.

On December 15th, 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) agreed with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (MARD) to import fresh litchi from Vietnam to Japan, completing the process of market opening started in 2017.

To prepare for the first export of litchi, since December 2019, the Plant Protection Department has worked with two provinces of Hai Duong and Bac Giang to guide the process of planting and caring for the litchi, while developing 3 sterilization chambers that meet Japanese requirements.

So far nearly 5 tons of litchi have been processed at the Toan Cau Import-Export Company, with its disinfection facility recognized by MARD and the Japanese side as eligible for preliminary processing of litchi before exporting to Japan.

It is estimated that in the 2020 litchi season, about 100 tons of fresh litchi will be exported to Japan by air and sea./.
