Ha Nam Province urged to become growth pole in Red River Delta
NDO – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has urged the northern province of Ha Nam to strive to become a growth pole in the Red River Delta while attending a ceremony recognising the province as having completed its programme to build new rural areas in 2020.
Speaking on January 13, Dung praised the province on its effort to modernise its rural areas and stressed that agriculture, farmers and rural areas play a strategic role in national construction.
He said that Ha Nam, one of four provinces recognised as new rural provinces, should uphold its achievements and strive to become wealthier and more modern.
The Deputy PM suggested the province should focus on industrial development, considering it a foundation to support agriculture and enhance people’s living standards.
He also suggested Ha Nam develop services such as tourism, logistics, healthcare and education on the basis of maximising its potential.
According to Ha Nam Chairman Truong Quoc Huy, all of its communes have been recognised as new rural areas in the past ten years.
The average income per capita of rural residents in 2020 increased nearly four times compared with 2010, while the rate of rural poverty fell sharply from 10.68% in 2010 to 1.84% in 2020.
Ha Nam is hoping to have at least one district meeting the criteria of a model new rural area by 2025 and to raise its income per capita in rural areas to at least VND68 million (over US$2,950) over the next five years.
It also aims to reduce the poverty rate to less than 0.5% and increase health insurance coverage to 95% or above.
